Kendari, SE Sulawesi, Dec 13 (Antara) - The Food And Agriculture Organization (FAO) has formed sago business groups in Southeast Sulawesi named `Meambo Food`.
Field Supervisor of FAO, Muhammad Reza Ramadhan, said via WhatsApp earlier this week said the operations of the business group cover the entire province of Southeast Sulawesi.
"FAO formed a sago business group Meambo Food on December 6, 2017 aimed at processing sago from upstream to downstream -- from production processing to sales," Reza Ramadhan said.
Reza said currently the sago group operates only in three regencies in the province but it plans to expand its operation in the entire province.
The three regencies are Regency of Konawe in the village of Labela , sub-district of Besulutu; Regency of Konawe Selatan in the village of Kosebo , sub-district of Angata; and city of Kendari, in the sub-district of Kendari, city of Kendari.
The business is expected to expand and will create new jobs to reduce unemployment in the province, Reza said.
Earlier , head of the empowerment, agricultural extension, fisheries, forestry and food security board (BP4K-KKP) of Konawe Muhammad Akbar said the presence of FAO to expand sago plantations would contribute to regional economic development as sago plant grows well in the province.
Akbar said FAO aid for groups of farmers has been realized in three regencies and city - Konawe, Konawe Selatan, and city of Kendari.***3*** (AS/a014)
