Kendari, SE Sulawesi, Nov 25 (ANTARA) - The governments of Wakatobi district in Southeast Sulawesi and Lembata district in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) established cooperation in air and sea transportation, Wakatobi district head Hugua said on Friday.
Hugua said, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the air and sea transportation cooperation between the two districts was signed by the respective district heads here on Thursday night.
"The MoU was signed in the presence of the regional legislative assembly (DPRD) chairmen of the two districts," Hugua said, adding that Wakatobi-Lembata air and shipping routes would soon be opened in the near future to realize the cooperation.
Hugua said that preceding the opening of flight and shipping routes between the two districts, Wakatobi district administration officials would visit Lembata to obtain first hand information about various natural resources potential that could to sold in Wakatobi.
"The cooperation is expected to have a big advantage for the two districts to facilitate the public-access," Hugua said.
Meanwhile, Lembata district head Eliaser Yentji Sunur said the cooperation would have a positive impact on the two districts` economic growth, especially to improve the local people`s welfare.
"Following the air and sea transport cooperation between Lembata and Wakatobi, the people of the tow districts will find it easy to market their commodities," Eliaser said. (Ant).
