Kendari, SE Sulawesi, July 16 (Antara) - Flood waters inundated a number of villages in North Konawe District, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Saturday, as three rivers overflowed following incessant rains since Friday evening.
Andowia, Waroreta and Amolawe were the worst-hit villages following the overflowing of Wonua, Amolame and Anggomate Rivers, Rauf, deputy district head of North Konawe, said here, Saturday.
North Konawe District Head Ruksamin visited flood victims and helped their evacuation, Rauf noted.
"The flooding began at 3 a.m. local time while local residents were sleeping. At present, the floodwaters have reached a height of around two to three meters," he said.
Emergency tents and a public kitchen have been set up for the flood victims.
