Kendari, SE Sulawesi, Antara Sultra - The Public Prosecutor`s Office in Southeast Sulawesi Province is investigating the alleged embezzlement of state budget funds worth Rp310 billion allocated by the central government to the Muna district government in 2016.

A team of investigators from the Public Prosecutor`s Office had collected information from several parties who were aware of the funds and managed it, James Mamangkey, chief of the legal information section and public relations of the Public Prosecutor`s Office, noted here on Friday.

"The investigators are still in the process of collecting material and information from parties responsible for the management of budget funds allocated for the construction of infrastructure," he noted.

The office still needs additional data and information to investigate the case, he pointed out.

"The investigators believe there has been an abuse of power, but they have not named any party that is legally responsible for it. We still need more evidence," he stated.

"We do not object to the public keeping abreast of developments in the investigation of the alleged embezzlement of state funds involving dozens of people," he said.

If during further investigation, the investigators find legal facts pointing to a criminal offense, then they can question anybody in line with the law, he added.
