Kendari, S E Sulawesi, July 1 (Antara) -- The green building concept applied by the administration of Kendari in Southeast Sulawesi province is aimed at transforming the place into a green city.
"The green building concept was conceived to reduce carbon emissions, build energy consumption, conserve water resources, reduce emission of greenhouse gases, and save expenditure on energy," Mayor of Kendari Asrun said here on Wednesday.
The main purpose behind devising the green building concept was to reduce the negative impacts of the environment on human health.
The concept is also aimed at creating a healthy environment and at keeping the air clean, along with sustainably preserving water resources.
"The benefits of constructing green buildings can only be enjoyed through the joint efforts of policymakers, the private sector and other stakeholders, including the community," Asrun emphasized.
The Kendari city administration encourages housing developers to get involved in the application of the green building program, providing incentives to those who apply the concept in their construction projects.
"The incentives include providing housing developers land in residential areas to be used for green projects," the mayor stated.
Kendari has become increasingly crowded due to population growth and rapid urbanization, as a result of which the green building program is well-suited for the development of the city, he affirmed.
