Kendari, SE Sulawesi (Antaranews Sultra) - The customs office of Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi Province, continues to boost the exports of mainstay commodities of the province through the Haluoleo Airport.

Head of Kendari Customs, Benny Benhard remarked here on Saturday that various efforts were being made with related parties to facilitate direct exports from Haluleo Airport to abroad.

"Thus, the export data of Southeast Sulawesi Province will improve drastically every year," he noted.

Benhard pointed to real exports in Southeast Sulawesi several years ago that had contributed to exports nationwide.

"However, exports from Southeast Sulawesi are not listed in the nation`s export documents. They are only recorded as domestic exports since despite commodities originating from Southeast Sulawesi, but at international airports, such as Makassar and Jakarta, they need to be re-documented for overseas destinations," he stated.

Hence, Benhard revealed that the value of Southeast Sulawesi`s exports is not at par with expectations based on the amount of natural resources available.

"The fact indicates that fishery products are from Southeast Sulawesi, but the export data is that of outside Southeast Sulawesi. Hence, it is possible that this province would want to increase its existing export performance," he explained.

The customs along with related agencies have managed to make a breakthrough that will directly impact exports from the Haluoleo Airport to abroad.

According to Benhard, it is an effort or a small step of the several initiatives taken to boost Southeast Sulawesi`s exports, especially of fishery commodities.
