Kendari, S.E. Sulawesi, July 17 (Antara) - The provincial administration of Southeast Sulawesi said it supports PT Wahana Surya Agro planning to build a Rp2.4 trillion sugar refinery and plantation project in Pulau Muna.

Chief spokesman of the provincial administration Harmin Ramba said PT Wahana Surya Agro is serious in its investment plan, therefore, it deserves support.

"Currently, there are a number of things being discussed related to investment plan in Pulau Muna," Harmin Ramba said after chairing a coordinating meeting between the provincial administration and the company here on Monday.

The discussions include on layout, as the plan involves two district administrations. Pulau Muna is located in the border area between the districts of Muna and Muna Barat.

Cooperation and support are needed from the two district administrations, Harmin Ramba said.

"The same commitment from the two district administrations is necessary to support the project. There are things that need clearance such as rent of land . We don`t want failure to meet all investment obligations," he said.

The meeting had ended with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two district administrations, the provincial administration and PT Wahana Surya Agro on the rights and obligations of all parties involved, he said.

"Today`s meeting was expected to result in an agreement to be followed with cooperation as later there would be recommendation from the governor on the feasibility of the project," he said.

There are other issues to be discussed including business and production licenses, environment, and other related matters, he added.

Harmin gave emphasis on the importance of the project the benefits for the economy of the region especially the people.

"As the sugar factory is labor intensive and it would involves around 25,000 workers," he said.
