Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Dec 8 (Antara) - The Baubau city administration in Southeast Sulawesi Province has urged local tourism players to actively contribute to boosting the tourism sector in the city through the dissemination of "Sapta Pesona" values.

"Indonesia`s tourism is not only the sole responsibility of the government but also all elements, such as academics, businesspersons, and media, along with community service in the field of tourism," Ibnu Wahid, Baubau city government`s tourism secretary, noted via a WhatsApp message on Friday.

He said every tourism player, regardless of being involved in the hospitality sector, a travel agent, or a guide, is expected to create Sapta Pesona that is a sense of security, orderliness, cleanliness, calmness, beauty, and memories for every tourist visiting the area.

"The values of Sapta Pesona must be ingrained in every human resource in the hospitality sector, restaurants, and travel agents, as they are the vanguard in boosting tourism in this city," he emphasized.

According to Wahid, as being in the fore front for supporting tourism facilities and infrastructure, hotels, travel agents, and guides greatly influence the interest and potential of every tourist visit, both domestic and foreign, so the professionalism of each related human resource is expected to boost the regional tourism competitiveness index.

"To support the tourism sector, through the Indonesian Guide Association, the city government of Baubau has also readied 20 certified guides and 10 hotel tourist supporters," he added.

In 2018, the tourism sector will cooperate with the Ministry of Tourism to provide certification to travel agents to design tour packages.

He cited that the number of foreign tourist arrivals in 2017 had reached some four thousand, while the number of domestic tourists was recorded at 300 thousand.
