Kendari, SE Sulawesi, Aug 25 (Antara) - The naming of Southeast Sulawesi Governor Nurul Alam as graft suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should serve as a lesson for other regional leaders, a member of the Indonesian ombudsman (ORI) said.

The action taken by KPK was also a slap on the face of other law enforcement agencies, head of the regional representative office of ORI Aksa said here on Thursday.

Other law enforcement agencies have failed in seeing what KPK has seen behind the wealth amassed by the governor, Aksa said.

The attorney general office has long launched investigations into alleged corruption and money laundering involving Nurul Alam.

Last year, Maruli Hutagalung, the Investigation Director of the Attorney General Office, said an investigating team was looking for evidence.

The team had even gone as far as tracing suspicious flows of fund from Nur Alam`s account to a mining company in Hong Kong Richcorp International Limited, but apparently investigation had balked somewhere in the process.

In Kendari on Thursday, Aksa said, ORI has never ceased to warn state officials including law enforcement agencies against malpractices that always lead to corruption.

"Stick to the rule, law obedience is always our warning in any occasions," he said.

Malpractice has always served as a gate to corruption, and state officials and law enforcement agencies should continue to observe their duty of upholding the law, he said.

"The key is integrity . One could properly act in line with the law and would not abuse power if he has integrity," he added.

The Southeast Sulawesi governor is charged with corruption in the process of granting nickel exploration license to PT.Anugerah Harisma Barakah (AHB) in 2012.

KPK began investigation of the corruption case on report from the Financial Transaction Analysis and Reporting Center (PPATK) on what is called "fat accounts."

Nurul Alam was also charged with Rp36 billion (US$4.5 million) money laundering.

KPK has raided the office of the governor and houses linked to the corruption case.

"Today KPK raided a number of places including the governor`s office in Kendari, the office of the Law Bureau of the provincial administration in Kendari, the office of the region energy and mineral resource service in Kendari and a number of houses in Kendari and Jakarta linked to the case," KPK deputy chairman Laode M Syarif said here on Tuesday.
