Kendari, SE Sulawesi, May 27 (Antara) - A number of investors planning to build sugar plantations and factories in Southeast Sulawesi have to put off or drop their plan on problem in land clearing.

"The prospective investors have been granted the license to open sugar plantations and build sugar factories in a number of districts in the province, but none of them has begun work to implement their projects as the lands on which they have been licensed by the governor to open the plantations and build the factories are yet to be cleared," head of the provincial plantation and horticulture office Bambang said here on Wednesday.

Bambang said Governor H Nur Alam himself has asked four regents or head of the four district areas where the projects are to be built, to facilitate the land the process of land clearing.

However, the four regents had failed to comply with the request, he said.

"I don`t understand what are the problem with the four regents. Why they seem to be not interested in drawing investors to their districts and help accelerate development of economy in their respective areas," he said.

The four regents are those of the regencies of Konawe Selatan, Buton Utara, Kolaka and Muna Barat.

Bambang said there are five investors which have held the license to open sugar plantations and build sugar factories in the regencies. They are PT Kilau Indah Cemerlang, PT Marketindo Selaras, PT Asia Sweet Plantation, PT Wahana Suryo Agro and PT Sumagro Sawitara.

PT Kilau Indah Cemerlang and PT Marketindo Selaras are licensed to open sugar plantations in the regency of Konawe Selatan, PT Asia Sweet Plantation in the regency of Kolaka, PT Wahana Suryo Agro in Muna Barat and PT Sumagro Sawitara in Buton Utara.

Each of the companies is to open sugar plantations and build a sugar factory over at least 10,000 hectares of land, he said.
