Kendari, SE Sulawesi, July 9 (Antara)- Konawe District in Southeast Sulawesi Province has declared the highest flood alert status following flooding in several sub-districts over the past several days.

More than one thousand families were affected by floods in Bondoala sub-district alone since June 26, Tasman Taewa, acting head of Konawe district, said here, Monday.

"The number does not include victims in other sub-districts," he said.

Following the emergency status, he has asked for relief aid and other assistance from the central government.

The Konawe district authorities have distributed relief aid to flood victims in eight villages in Bondoala.

"We focus on distributing food, while blankets have been provided by the provincial administration," he said.

The Konawe district administration has made coordination with the local logistic office to distribute rice to flood victims.
