Wanggudu, Southeast Sulawesi, Antara Sultra - House of Representatives (DPR) member Tina Nur Alam acquainted the people of North Buton district in Southeast Sulawesi province with the
Healthy Living Community Movement (Germas) on Saturday.

Tina was cooperating with the Health Polytechnic of Kendari Health Office and the government of North Buton district to familiarize the local community with Germas.

"Germas is a joint movement that has an objective to reduce the burden of infectious and non-infectious diseases," she remarked.

The Germas was launched nationally a year ago by the government of Indonesia, and every province and district across the country continues to campaign for the program to improve the health and quality of life of the local communities.

Now the provincial governments realize the importance of tackling community health problems and further enhance it through the Germas program.

They are of the importance of community health and continue to encourage the implementation of the Germas program, through cross-sectoral and cross-program cooperation, by motivating people to lead a healthy life, which in turn can build a strong Indonesian nation.

The Germas movement is focused on six activities, including increasing physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day and leading a healthier lifestyle.

Other activities comprise providing food and accelerating nutritional improvement, increasing preventive measures for the early detection of diseases, providing a healthier environment, and improving education on healthy living.

This Germas program is expected to increase motivation and public awareness of the importance of maintaining a healthy life.

The program will thus rouse the interest of people, who are aware of the importance of health, to independently create healthy, clean, and strong districts across the country.

Health problems can be prevented if focus is laid on preventive and promotional efforts to foster awareness and self-reliance among families and communities to lead a clean and healthy lifestyle.

Development in the field of health cannot solely focus on the government but must also involve cross-sectoral cooperation, which can be realized through the Germas program.
