Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Antara, Sultra - The Kendari city government in Southeast Sulawesi Province, through the Agriculture and Livestock Service Office, has appealed to farmers in the area to develop integrated farming patterns.

Local Agriculture and Livestock Service Office Chief Sitti Ganef remarked here on Friday that by applying integrated agriculture patterns, other crops are planted in existing plantations, so that farmers are able to get results from not just one plant species.

"If this can be achieved, farmers will certainly be able to boost their income by increasing their yield," she said.

According to Ganef, by applying the pattern of integrated agriculture, farmers will be able to develop an alternative source of income when one type of plant cannot be harvested while other plant varieties can be.

"For instance, nutmeg and pepper farmers can also plant other crops on their land," she said.

She cited another example wherein coconut farmlands can also be used to plant corn, so that the expected harvest is diverse.
