Kendari, SE Sulawesi, Antara Sultra - Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman said two sugar factories to be built in Southeast Sulawesi will provide 10,000 new jobs.

"The 10,000 jobs would be made available mainly for local people excepting jobs for experts," Amran said when opening a seminar here on Monday.

He said the government would make available 30,000 hectares of lands for the two sugar refineries in two separate locations in the province.

"The factories would be built in the regencies of Konawe Selatan and Bombana," he said.

The two factories would make Southeast Sulawesi refined sugar production center for eastern Indonesia, he said ,adding the production capacity would be largest than any in the region.

The minister said Indonesia imports around 3 million tons of sugar every year .

"The imports are quite large and cost big. Therefore, Indonesia needs to build 10 sugar factories. Currently four new factories are already operational . Six more are yet to be built including two in Southeast Sulawesi," he said.
