Kendari, SE.Sulawesi, June 23 (Antara) - National mining company PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) has completed the construction of a coal power plant, with a capacity of 60 megawatts (MW), or 2 x 30 MW, in Pomala, Kolaka District, Southeast Sulawesi Province.

Tri Hartonon, the general manager of Antam, stated here on Thursday that the power plant was built using national capital funds worth Rp3.5 trillion (or US$263.8 million) from the government.

"Antam has built the power plant to meet the electricity needs of a smelter, which will increase the company`s nickel production," he explained.

The smelter is expected to operate optimally and boost the company`s revenue.

"If the production increases, then the administration and the local community will be able to avail huge benefits from the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs," Tri remarked.

According to Tri, of the total capacity, 5 MW will be allocated to the Kolaka administration to be distributed to the locals.

"Antam, the administrative head of Kolaka and state-owned company PLN have agreed to supply 5 MW of electricity to the people of Kolaka," Tri stated.

The allocation demonstrates corporate concern for the locals, especially those living in the operational area of Antam.

"The 5 MW is not part of the company`s CSR, but it is a part of business," Tri added.
