Kendari, SE.Sulawesi, Sep 9 (Antara) - The district administration of Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi province, and the provincial administration of Jeju, South Korea have established cooperation as sister cities.
The spokesperson for the Wakatobi administration, Laode Ifi, said on Wednesday that a memorandum of understanding had been signed between the two cities administrations on September 5.
"The Wakatobi administration was represented by the regent, Hugua and the Jeju provincial administration was represented by the Governor, Wong Hee-ryong," Ifi said.
She added that the Jeju administration is interested in cooperating with Wakatobi because of its coastal areas and pristine marine waters.
"The Jeju administration wants to share experiences with the Wakatobi administration about developing the city without disturbing the balance of the environment, including by implementing low-carbon development," she said.
The Wakatobi administration also wants to learn from the Jeju administration, especially with regards to urban population management.
"If we do not anticipate and resolve them as soon as possible, the issues related to urban population will cause many problems, especially congestion and flooding," she said.
In addition to cooperating with Jeju, the Wakatobi administration has also established sister city cooperation with the Hainan administration, in China.
