Wangiwangi, Southeast Sulawesi, Sept 8 (Antara) - Wakatobi District Head Hugua has encouraged investors to construct star-rated hotels and restaurants in the Southeast Sulawesi District, Wakatobi.

"More hotels and restaurants should be constructed in Wakatobi because the district is now not only one of the world`s tourist destinations but also the regional, national, and international venue of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE)," Hugua noted here on Monday.

He remarked that as one of the world`s tourist destinations and a venue for MICE, Wakatobi needs more star-rated hotels and restaurants to represent the district.

"Therefore, I appeal to local, national, and even foreign investors to invest in star-rated hotels and restaurants in Wakatobi," the Wakatobi District head noted.

For achieving outstanding results in developing Wakatobi as a tourist destination and for promoting the district internationally, Hugua was presented the Tourism Award from the Culture and Tourism Ministry in 2010.

He received the highest award from the ministry during a Visit Indonesia Year 2010 Appreciation Night at Sahid Jaya Hotel in Jakarta.

Hugua stated that based on an evaluation from the ministry during the period, Wakatobi tourism had made outstanding progress and attracted many foreign tourists from various countries.

According to him, the award was a show of appreciation from the central government through the ministry to the district heads and mayors who had successfully developed and promoted the tourism sector in their respective regions to attract both domestic and foreign tourists.

The award, according to him, was not only of national but also of international significance because it was presented based on assessments made by domestic and foreign tourists who had visited various tourist sites in the area.

Hugua pointed out that Wakatobi was famous worldwide for its beautiful tourist attractions, leading to a continued increase in the number of tourist arrivals each year.

Therefore, he has encouraged investors to build more hotels and restaurants in the district.
