Kendari, Feb 8 (Antara) - National Police (Polri) Deputy Chief Commissioner General Oegroseno believes the success of the upcoming legislative and presidential elections relies on good communications among all public groups.

"I always say that the key to the success of elections is good communications among all public elements and political parties to avoid misunderstanding about election regulations," Oegroseno said here on Saturday.

Speaking during a discussion on public security and order prior to the elections, the National Police deputy chief noted that the success of elections was the common responsibility of Polri, all public elements, and the political parties contesting in the elections.

Oegroseno noted that good communications, rather than violence, will make the elections a success because it prevents confrontations caused by misunderstandings.

"Chaos and disputes often occur in elections, but this time we have to have all out efforts to make them a success by building good communications among Polri, the General Elections Commission, General Elections Supervisory Board, the political parties, and all public elements," he stated.

Meanwhile, security arrangements will be intensified in targeted regions across Indonesia to assure the safety and success of upcoming legislative and presidential elections in the country.

The Indonesian Police have identified potential conflict-prone regions, and thus, plan to step up security measures to guarantee that the elections run peacefully, orderly, and successfully.

Police in a number of regions, such as in Kalimantan, Bali, Yogyakarta, Riau and West Nusa Tenggara, have confirmed that they would cooperate with the National Defense Forces (TNI) to ensure the security of elections.

In Bali, for instance, local Police Chief Inspector General Albertus Julius Benny Mokalu stated in Denpasar on Friday that the police would cooperate with military personnel to ensure security during the elections.

"We will conduct a joint exercise with TNI in our effort to ensure security during the elections," Mokalu clarified.

He explained that besides TNI personnel, the Bali Police will work with the regional government, including local General Election Commission and Election Supervisory Board.

The two-star general then expressed his hope that optimal cooperation with the TNI and the regional government will create a safe and conducive situation for the elections.
