Kendari, SE Sulawesi, Oct 21 (ANTARA) - Chief Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa said the construction of the Trans Sulawesi Railway needs an initial funding of US$2 billion.

"A Russian investor has expressed readiness to provide financing for the trans Sulawesi railway, which would be the first of kind in Sualweis," the minister said when inaugurating the operation of a public hospital here on Sunday.

Without elaborating the Russian investor, the minister said the foreign investor had assured its seriousness when he paid an official visit to Moscow.

He said that the construction of the Trans Sulawesi would be built by the private sector and would pass on six provinces in Sulawesi.

"If the private firm is willing to involve state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), there will be no problem as long as no one will suffer from losses," the minister said.

To be started from Makassar in South Sulawesi province, the construction of the trans sulawesi railway is expected to begin next year. (Ant).
