Kendari, SE Sulawesi, Dec 6 (Antara) - The Mobile Brigade (Brimob) unit of the Southeast Sulawesi provincial police has sent 100 personnel to the district of Poso in Central Sulawesi province to maintain security ahead of regional head election on Wednesday.
"Today we sent a company of personnel to Poso to maintain security in the leadup to simultaneous regional head elections in Central Sulawesi," chief of the Brimob unit Senior Commissioner Kasero Mangollo said here on Sunday.
The Brimob personnel will be deployed in the district for 10 days. But he did not rule out the possibility that they will stay in the district longer at the request of the National Police Headquarters.
"This company consists of personnel with different skills, including defusing bombs, fighting against terrorists, and hunting down (criminals hiding) in urban and forest areas," he said.
The Brimob personnel will support their colleagues who have been deployed in the district earlier, he said.
"The Brimob unit of the Southeast Sulawesi provincial police is ready to be assigned everywhere to thwart any form of threat to public order," he said.
A soldier from the 712 Raider infantry battalion was killed in an ambush late last month in the district of Poso while conducting an operation to hunt down the Santoso-led terrorist group.
