Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Oct 12 (Antara) - Southeast Sulawesi Governor Nur Alam here on Monday launched the Bokori Island Festival scheduled to be held on October 29-November 1, 2015.
"Today, we are launching the Bokori Island Festival in our effort to promote the island as one of the tourist destinations in Southeast Sulawesi," the governor stated.
He noted that several activities outlined to enliven the festival, include a beach volleyball national championship game, fishing competition, and a writing competition on tourism, among others.
"The National Volleyball Federation of Indonesia chose to organize the beach volleyball national championship to enliven the festival as Bokori Island has its own advantages compared to other coastal areas in Indonesia," he affirmed.
Alam remarked that the sand on the beach in the coastal region of Bokori Island met the national standard for the implementation of the beach volleyball national championship.
He pointed out that according to standard, a grain of sand at the venue of the beach volleyball championship should be three millimeters, and in fact, the sand at Bokori island is of high quality, which makes it the right venue to hold the beach volleyball championship.
"We hope that Bokori Island in future can be selected as the location for both the ASEAN and the international beach volleyball championship," he noted.
In the meantime, Southeast Sulawesi Police Chief Brigadier General Agung Sabar Santoso, who will act as the chief organizer of the National Volleyball Championship at Bokori island, remarked that at least 75 teams will participate in the event.
"We are ready to secure the implementation of the championship, including securing the volleyball teams from different regions," he added.
