Kendari  (Antara News) - Wakatobi District administration in Southeast Sulawesi will invite President Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, to visit the district next year, according to district head Hugua.

"We are currently preparing numerous agenda and activities for President Jokowi to attend. After the preparation is ready, we will deliver our invitation to the president to visit Wakatobi," Hugua said here on Wednesday.

He stated that one of the agenda is the Bureau Council Meeting United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific 2015 (UCLG-ASPAC 2015).

Based in Jakarta, the regional section of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) is the key knowledge management hub on local government issues in the region.

Hugua said UCLG is a worldwide association of local government organizations that dates back to 1913.

UCLG is the only local government organization recognized by the United Nations, and nominates 10 out of 20 members of UNACLA, the first advisory body of local authorities affiliated with the UN.

The Asia and Pacific region is the biggest of the eight sections in UCLG with linkages to more than 7.000 local governments.

It represents well over 3.76 billion people - more than half of the world population - and incorporates economically fast developing countries such as China, India and Indonesia.

"The Bureau Council Meeting in Wakatobi in September 2015 is projected to be attended by 500 participants, including 200 district heads/mayors and governors in Asia Pacific," Hugua said.

He noted that the meeting will be an opportunity for the governors and district heads/mayors in Asia Pacific to have nostalgia with Jokowi who used to be a co-president of UCLG-ASPAC.

"Besides attending the Bureau Council Meeting, President Jokowi will officiate numerous major projects in Wakatobi, including a Steam Power Plant (PLTU) and International Fishery School," Hugua remark.
