Andoolo, S.E. Sulawesi, Aug 16 (Antara News) - A private nickel ore mining company, PT. IFISHDECO, will build a nickel refining plant at a cost of some Rp1 trillion in Konawe Selatan District, South East Sulawesi province.

President Director of PT Bintang Smelter Indonesia (BSI) Harison Yawan said here on Saturday that the factory was projected to produce as much as 100 thousand tons per year of crude nickel and will be built in stages in 2014 and 2015.

"It is expected that the nickel ore reserves can be purified at the factory, which will be built on an area of 70 hectares located in Ngapaaha village, Tinanggea subdistrict," Harison said.

According to Harrison, the plant construction would not be a lengthy process because much of the factory will be built elsewhere and only assembled at the location.

"Support from the government and the community is badly needed to help accelerate the factory construction, which will require about 500 workers," he explained.

Officiating at the groundbreaking for the nickel refining plant was Konawe Selatan regent Imran.

Imran pointed out that PT. IFISHDECO is one of 27 mining companies that have permits to build a nickel refining plant in the country.
