Rumbia, S.E. Sulawesi, Oct 3 (ANTARA) - PT Trias Jaya Agung a nickel mining company on the Kabaena island, in the regency of Bombana, Southeast Sulawesi, has secured the license to export nickel ores to China.
The company was granted the license by the trade ministry as it plans to build a processing factory for its nickel ores, an official of the energy and mining office said.
Mining companies are allowed to export mineral ores if they have plan to build a processing factory to be operational before 2014 when the exports of mineral ores would be banned.
Sahrun, head of the Bombana energy and mining office , said PT Rias is granted the license as it is a registered exporter with plan to build a nickel smelter to process its nickel ores after two years.
Sahrun said PT Trias will hold the license to export nickel ores for two years and after that period it would be allowed only to export processed product of nickel.
The company, therefore, has to build a smelter to process its nickel ores or has its ores processed by other companies having smelter.
Under the license, PT Trias is allowed to produce and export not more than 1.05 million tons of nickel ores a year.
"PT Trias will export nickel ores to China`s province of Lian Yun Gang Port," Sahrun said.
He said PT Trias is the only nickle mining company holding the export license among 38 nickel mining producers on the island of Kabaena.
Other 37 companies hold no export license as none of them has asked for it, he said, adding, two of them plan to build smelters to process nickel ore for export.
The two companies planning to build nickel smelter on the island of Kabaena are PT Billy Indonesia and PT Anugrah Kharisma Barakah. (Ant)
